Stile Antico
William Byrd is in zijn eentje een toonbeeld van meerstemmigheid. Aan het protestantse hof van Elizabeth I gold hij als loyale hofmusicus. Maar stiekem schreef hij ook muziek voor de vervolgde katholieke gemeenschap. Met een zorgvuldig gecureerde selectie uit Byrds glimmende motetten, verstilde gebeden en intense jubelkoren vlecht Stile Antico zijn levens als kunstenaar, onderdaan, dissident en kluizenaar tot één sprekend portret.
