Kan je anno 2026 nieuwe barokmuziek componeren? Artist in residence Patrick Ayrton nam de proef op de som. In Astrophil & Stella, zijn liedcyclus op teksten van Elizabethaanse dichters als Philip Sidney, John Donne en William Shakespeare, hanteert hij de muziektaal van het 17de-eeuwse Engeland. Na een jarenlange studie van contrapunt, retoriek en improvisatie is dit Ayrtons pakkende propositie: een liefdesbrief aan de Engelse barok.
