La Néréide
In a boarding school – somewhere in the France of Louis XIV – girls learn to pray and be obedient during the day. But in the evening, other emotions sneak inside the school walls: desire, doubt, rebellion. La Néréide captures the life of such a demoiselle, caught between devotion and passion, in music. Monumental misereres by Clérambault and Lalouette clash with provocative airs de cour by Lambert, Jacquet de la Guerre, and contemporaries. Who wins the duel between head and heart?
