Ensemble Melpomen
What did the tragedy of Oedipus sound like in ancient Greece? And how did Renaissance Italy think it sounded two thousand years later? Ensemble Melpomen looks for answers in a fascinating experiment with music from two eras. The famous verses of poet Sophocles resonate in both a reconstruction of ancient choral singing and in the setting that Andrea Gabrieli wrote in 1585 for the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza. Theatre fans and time travellers: buckle up!
