Sollazzo Ensemble

The ‘anonymous’ composer we so often encounter in early music sources was rarely a woman. Or was it? Sollazzo Ensemble explores this question with chansons from the 15th century in which a female or neutral voice speaks. Around Margaret of Austria – collector, patron, and grande dame of Low Country polyphony – a programme unfolds that challenges not only the ear but also the imagination: a subtle thought exercise regarding perspective, identity, and the voices that history forgot.

Programme

  • Works by anonymous composers from the Loire Valley Songbooks

The exact programme will be announced soon.

    c1465-1475

Musicians

  • Johanna Beier soprano
  • Lior Leibovici, Jonatan Alvarado tenor
  • Rémi Lecorche sackbut, slide trumpet
  • Adrien Reboisson shawm, dulcian
  • Ori Harmelin, Floris de Rycker lute
  • Anna Danilevskaia musical direction, vihuela de arco

About the performers

Founded in 2014, the Basel-based Sollazzo Ensemble won several prizes in the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition less than a year later. The ensemble led by viola player Anna Danilevskaia focuses on medieval repertoire, although the musicians have different musical backgrounds - from early music to contemporary music and even musical.
