Gothic architecture refers to Spain, where the Visigoths ruled during late antiquity. Yet it was not the Goths who invented the distinctive Gothic pointed arch. They were more likely to be seen in Syria, then north of Baghdad in Samarra, in Cairo and finally in Italy. This talk is about the wondrous journey of arches and other architectural elements, from east to west.
