The Harp Consort (cancelled)

Due to serious personal circumstaces of one of the ensemble members, this concert has unfortunately been cancelled. Ticket holders have received an e-mail with more information.

In 1994, with their debut album Luz y Norte, The Harp Consort shot to the top of the classical charts like a comet. ‘Sceptics asked: can such an exciting sound be historical?’ recalls Andrew Lawrence-King. Thirty years later, the question no longer arises, and his recipe for infectious Spanish and South American Baroque holds up effortlessly. Relive the original - copied thousands of times but never equalled - this summer live in Utrecht!

About the performers

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, The Harp Consort is an ensemble that excels at improvisation within the distinct styles of Baroque, Renaissance and medieval music. The group takes its inspiration from the 17th-century harp consort formed in England at the court of Charles I. Like the 17th-century Consorte, The Harp Consort is formed around the accompanying instruments of the basso continuo and brings together an international team of musicians who create a rich variety of timbres. The Harp Consort’s programmes range from medieval drama and solo songs to Baroque opera, from new works for early instruments to exuberantly danced suites.
