Tenebrae Choir
Same composer, different space. For the court of Elizabeth I, William Byrd wrote music that didn’t need to be hidden: hymns, Easter music, and excerpts from the Divine Office that followed the rhythm of Anglican religious practice. Yet this repertoire bears the same signature of clear counterpoint and controlled intensity. Tenebrae – crystal-clear choral sound and precise phrasing: check! – demonstrates how Byrd switches between intimacy and projection without ever sacrificing sharpness.
