Psallentes & Frits van Oostrom
She wrote verses for God. Not tame prayers, but texts full of fire, longing, and ecstasy. Around 1250, the Brabant mystic Hadewijch gave words to a love that drives the soul to extremes: minne, courtly love. Psallentes connects her songs with the visionary music of that other medieval heroine, Hildegard von Bingen. Medievalist Frits van Oostrom is our guide through a world of spirituality and poetry, in which language and song elevate each other to an encounter with the ineffable.
With recitation in Dutch.
