Patrick Ayrton & Friends

Why should we play only composers from the past? Contemporary voices also deserve a place at Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht. For many years, there was a taboo on new music in the Baroque style, but composing in the spirit of the old masters is anything but pretentious. In the Baroque era, it was actually a matter of course: every musician wrote their own music. In The Italian Project, artist-in-residence Patrick Ayrton juxtaposes his own compositions with works by Monteverdi, Caccini, and Sigismondo d’India.
