L'Achéron
Versailles is bathed in darkness, but the Sun King is still awake. In a room next to the royal sleeping quarters, Marin Marais lets his beloved viola da gamba sing nocturnal confessions: lamenting, tender, seductive. François Joubert-Caillet and L’Achéron selected pieces from Marais’s royal catalogue in which the viola da gamba best approximates the human voice: from the sweet-voiced La Rêveuse and the legendary Les voix humaines, through mournful tombeaux, to the dizzying Labyrinthe.
