A Ukrainian Christmas
It has become a tradition during the festive season: our alternative Christmas soundtrack. Partes Ensemble presents Ukrainian baroque masterpieces from the 17th and 18th centuries, when Kyiv and Lviv were crossroads of musical traditions. Theorist-composer Mykola Dyletsky brought Italian influences to the East, while child prodigy Maksym Berezovsky took the choral concerto to new heights. From mighty twelve-part chants to refined miniatures, an enchanting winter wonderland unfolds.

About the performers

The Partes Ensemble was born as part of the project Open Opera Ukraine. Partes singing is a distinctive feature of Ukrainian music history, emerging in the 17th century as a revolutionary addition to Eastern Rite monophony. By blending Western European polyphony with local traditions, it created a unique synthesis, shaping what is now known as the Ukrainian musical Baroque. This style played a crucial role in the country’s cultural development. The project seeks to revive and promote the partes singing heritage both in Ukraine and globally, presenting it as a significant and representative element of Ukrainian musical history, essential for understanding the broader landscape of Baroque music and its diverse influences.
