Philippe Jaroussky & Angélique Mauillon

1602. A revolutionary idea redefines the future of music: in the new ‘seconda pratica’, notes become subservient to words. From now on, music becomes theatre, full of emotions. With Caccini’s revolutionary collection Le nuove musiche as a compass, countertenor Philippe Jaroussky and harpist Angélique Mauillon make their way as a duo through four centuries of music, navigating between Italian music temples and French salons. Monteverdi’s raw emotion, Moulinié’s courtly sighs, Hahn’s melancholic love letter – connected by desire: stirring and touching, straight to the heart.

About the performers

Philippe Jaroussky is one of the most admired countertenors of his generation. He has collaborated with renowned early music ensembles, including L'Arpeggiata, Les Arts Florissants, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Le Concert d'Astrée, and Europa Galante, and has performed under the baton of conductors such as Christina Pluhar, Emmanuelle Haïm, William Christie, Marc Minkowski, and René Jacobs. In 2002, he founded Ensemble Artaserse.

After studying harp at the Conservatory of Lyon, Angélique Mauillon specialized in the interpretation of early music. She also earned a degree in musicology. Mauillon’s repertoire spans from the 13th to the 18th century. She plays the medieval harp with ensembles such as Alla Francesca and Tasto Solo, and the Renaissance harp with Doulce Mémoire and Les Jardins de Courtoisie. She also performs regularly with her singing brother, Marc Mauillon.
