19:15 Introduction in Fentener van Vlissingen Foyer

Sing, rejoice, dance! The music that harpsichordist and conductor Leonardo García Alarcón brings to Utrecht bursts with life. We follow Iberian composers such as Juan de Araujo and Tomas de Torrejón y Velasco on their journey to Peru and Argentina. We also get acquainted with composers born in the New World, such as the Mexican Gaspar Fernández. Inspired by the sounds of Latin America, they created a unique blend of Spanish and Portuguese polyphony and local folk traditions. The result: sacred music that is joyful, profound, and impressive all at once.

About the performers

Cappella Mediterranea was founded in 2005 by the Swiss-Argentinian conductor Leonardo García Alarcón, originally to serve Latin Baroque music. Ten years on, its repertoire has diversified: in over fifty concerts a year, the ensemble explores madrigals, polyphonic motets and operas. The ensemble has made a name for itself with the rediscovery of previously unpublished works such as Michelangelo Falvetti's Il Diluvio universale and Nabucco, as well as with new versions of well-known repertoire such as Monteverdi's L'Orfeo and Bach's Mass in B minor.

Cappella Mediterranea is supported by the Ministry of Culture - DRAC Auvergne Rhône Alpes, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, the City of Geneva, a Swiss family foundation, a Geneva private foundation, and by its Circle of Friends and its Circle of Entrepreneurs with Diot-Siac, Chatillon Architects, Synapsys, Quinten and 400 Partners. Aline Foriel-Destezet is the main sponsor of Cappella Mediterranea. Cappella Mediterranea is a member of the Fevis (Federation of Specialized Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles) and CNM (National Center of Music).

Since its creation in 1987, the Chamber Choir of Namur has promoted the musical heritage of its region of origin through concerts and recordings of works by Lassus, Rogier, Hayne, Du Mont, Fiocco, Gossec, Grétry, while also taking on great works from the choral repertoire. Invited to perform at the most renowned festivals in Europe, The Chamber Choir of Namur regularly sings under the direction of prestigious choral directors such as Peter Phillips, Christophe Rousset, and Jérémie Rohrer.

The Chamber Choir of Namur is supported by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (music and dance department), the National Lottery, the City and Province of Namur.
