Johanna Rose

7 strings, 7 gestures
‘Wonderfully muscular... visceral and direct,’ wrote one reviewer. ‘Of the calibre of Jordi Savall, Wieland Kuijken and Hille Perl,’ considered another, whilst yet another spoke of ‘a revelation, undoubtedly on the way to a great career.’ Johanna Rose is the gambist of the moment. In this concert she pairs dances by Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe, the presumed inventor of the seventh string on the bass viol, with two suites by that other great gentleman, Johann Sebastian Bach.

About the performer

Virtuoso and elegant, sensitive and intelligent, technically sensational and breathtakingly musical: gambist Johanna Rose receives nothing but praise from the international press. She does not allow herself to be pigeonholed, this Tübingen-born artist who visits the world's most beautiful stages from her new hometown, Seville. Accompanying her in her portfolio: works by great gamba geniuses such as the Bach family, Marin Marais and Mr. De Sainte Colombe, plus music from the Spanish Baroque - a territory she explores with her own ensemble Sarao de Musas.
