During the Baroque era, Italy was the leader of the artistic pack. The whole world wanted to go to the country where Vivaldi shaped the concerto, Scarlatti reinvented instrumental music and Porpora wrote ingenious crowd-pleasers. Bach absorbed the style into his own works which he proudly labelled as 'Italian'. Handel successfully exported opera seria and oratorio to London. Maayan Licht and Guy Maori step into the eye of the storm with the brilliant extravagance of the Italian Baroque.

About the performers

Duo Zeffiretti was founded in 2019 by Maayan Licht (sopranist) and Guy Maori (harpsichord). The duo specializes in music from the 17th and 18th centuries. Their name (translated as ‘soft breezes’) was inspired by the Vivaldi aria Zeffiretti che sussurrate, which was one of the first pieces they worked on together. In 2020 Duo Zeffiretti won both the jury prize and the audience prize of the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Competition in Amsterdam. In the week following their winning, the duo recorded a live performance at Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam for NPO Radio 4. They also performed in the Dutch television programme Podium Witteman, at NTR’s Zomerfestival, and at Schiermonnikoog Jong Talent Festival.
