In the role of godfather, Georg Philipp Telemann passed on his name to Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, with whom he apparently maintained a lively correspondence and close relationship. The missing link? Father Johann Sebastian, who joins us for this buffet of cantata excerpts and sonatas, served up by soprano Dorothee Mields and recorder master Stefan Temmingh.

About the performers

She: one of the most acclaimed voices in 17th and 18th-century repertoire, as welcome a guest in major orchestral and operatic productions as in finely crafted song recitals. He: the visionary musician who made the recorder hip again. German soprano Dorothee Mields and South African virtuoso Stefan Temmingh have formed a successful team for several years. From Italian Baroque opera to Telemann cantatas, to music whispered by sweet-voiced fauna (see the Birds album), the duo generously shares with us the most enticing gems of repertoire as well as its most stunning finds.
