Ricercar Consort & Jean Rondeau

Jean Rondeau swaps his soloist role for a dialogue with the Ricercar Consort in this ultimate tribute to maitre Couperin. This sound monument is based on Couperin's rare violin fantasies and Luigi Rossi's heart-wrenching Les Pleurs d'Orphée. The mysterious Pavanne and the moving Tombeau de Blancrocher gain new depth thanks to the string colours. As a final salute, Sainte-Colombe's Concert Le Tombeau des Regrets sounds with the legendary Les Pleurs - a sweet lament in which every note shines and reflects like the tears of Orpheus.

About the performers

‘Seeking out’ (ricercar) promoted to art form: that has been the foundation and essence of the Ricercar Consort ever since the ensemble was formed in 1980. Four decades later, what started with Bach has grown into an ever-enthusiastic exploration of a wide range of baroque music, focusing on 17th-century repertoire. Whether it is chamber music or opera, the Ricercar Consort wants to affect, move and inspire people, and under the guidance of gambist Philippe Pierlot manages again and again to bring that mission to a successful conclusion.

Jean Rondeau, hailed by the Washington Post as “one of the most natural performers on a classical music stage,” is a global ambassador for the harpsichord. With his innovative approach and exceptional talent, he is recognized as one of today’s leading harpsichordists. Signed to Erato, Rondeau’s albums include Gradus Ad Parnassum (2023). He performs worldwide, including at Carnegie Hall, the Philharmonie de Paris, and the Berlin Philharmonie.
