Although separated by a decade, Schumann's Kinderszenen opus 15 and Waldszenen opus 82 are nevertheless cut from the same cloth: both cycles of keyboard miniatures capture deep emotions in seemingly simple forms. The nine forest landscapes from Schumann's last creative heyday mirror the thirteen children's scenes from the period around his engagement. Together they form a nostalgic portrait of happiness and loss: the lost worlds of purity and innocence, transformed by Schumann's vision into timeless sound poetry.
