Anna-Liisa Eller

Anna-Liisa Eller presents the Estonian kannel: a cousin of the harp that is played horizontally and boasts a truly enchanting timbre. In idiosyncratic transcriptions, Eller unleashes Estonia's national musical symbol on masterpieces from the Renaissance and Baroque. In addition to Byrd, Dowland, Bach and Rameau, traditional Estonian melodies are also heard, while contemporary work by Helena Tulve catapults the instrument into the 21st century. A fascinating combo of cherished Baltic and Western music.
