Fringe: Quartet Novalis
This concert is part of the free fringe programme of the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht 2025.
Quartet Novalis is a period-performance ensemble from New York City, featuring Eliana Estrada, Ela Kodžas, Annemarie Schubert, and Luka Stefanović. They explore old concepts of sound and musical understanding in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century string quartets, performing on historical instruments to reveal subtle textures. They were Academy Quartet at the 2024 Carmel Bach Festival and toured NYC afterwards. The name honours the German philosopher Novalis, who saw language and music as living, magical forces beyond reality.
