Janno den Engelsman

Eighty metres above the ground, Janno den Engelsman – city carillonneur of Middelburg, Bergen op Zoom and Zierikzee – conjures up the Musique de la Chambre: the elite troops that Louis XIV had provided exclusively for private entertainment. Forqueray’s viola da gamba suites, Couperin’s mysterious Barricades and Tic-toc-choc, and a suite by Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre: they surrender their intimate charm for the grandeur of the Hemony bells.
