Rameau’s Pygmalion
What if fantasy became reality? Jean-Philippe Rameau answered that question in 1748 with Pygmalion, a musical gem about an artwork that comes to life and a sculptor who falls hopelessly in love with his creation. Rameau crafted a soundtrack full of movement, contrast, and magical harmonies.
Ensemble Masques and a fine cast of singers turn this short opera into gripping musical theatre, complete with acrobatics and dance. Olivier Fortin conducts this feast for the senses, where Rameau’s orchestral colors merge into a dazzling swirl. The warm-up act: a suite from Hippolyte et Aricie – another masterpiece by the grand master.
