Jean Rondeau

Artist in residence Jean Rondeau continues his homage to Louis Couperin at the organ keyboard. Only rediscovered in 1957, the organ scores reveal a unique niche in Couperin’s work: here, his contrapuntal ingenuity unfolds in its purest form through architectural fantasies and fugues. Especially notable are the fugues on Urbs Beata Jerusalem and the Invitatoire for Easter Sunday – liturgical music that recalls Couperin’s career as organist at Saint-Gervais in Paris.
