Cantoría

When Juan of Castile and Margaret of Austria married in 1497, not only two dynasties but also two polyphonic traditions intertwined. The Spanish singers of Cantoría reflect the ambitious political alliance in a programme that interweaves Pierre de la Rue's Missa Ave Maria with the motets of Juan de Anchieta – a rare encounter between refined Franco-Flemish filigree, powerful Castilian lyricism and the religious devotion that marked Margaret's life.
