Fringe: Duo Mandelbrot
This concert is part of the free fringe programme of the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht 2024.
Duo Mandelbrot consists of American Baroque violinist Maya Webne-Behrman and German lutist Niels Pfeffer. The two met at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in 2019, where they both completed master’s degrees in the study of music performance from Renaissance through the Romantic periods. Maya and Niels aim to study and create music in a detailed manner, focusing on colour and texture in their modest instrumentation. Through the exploration of musical intimacy and sound, Mandelbrot delves into music from an array of periods and styles, with particular interest in and inspiration from folk music, the impressionist period, improvisation, playing from memory, and the fusing of all these methods of music-making.
