Fringe: Olympe Ensemble
This concert is part of the free fringe programme of the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht 2024.
Olympe Ensemble, founded in 2022, explores the flute and string repertoire from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, particularly French music written around the time of the Revolution. The ensemble's name honours Olympe de Gouges, a proto-feminist writer executed by guillotine in 1793. Their programmes often include virtuosic pieces, demanding great mastery of the period instruments they play on. Priority is the expressive rendition of the passion and character changes in the music to engage the audience. Their repertoire includes well-known pieces, rarely performed works, and unique arrangements for their ensemble.
