Perrine Devillers & Ariel Abramovich
Esteban Daça was a headstrong heir from Valladolid who abandoned a career in law for a life of music. His mastery of the vihuela—the Spanish Renaissance instrument somewhere between a guitar and a lute—is evident in El Parnasso (1576): a collection of compositions that demand athletic exertion from the performer. Soprano Perrine Devillers and vihuela player Ariel Abramovich explore Daça’s sure-footed style, complementing it with Spanish villanescas, villancicos, and chansons.
